Theme: PURITY AND POWER
Texts: Gen.6:1-3,9; 17:1-7; Isa.6:1-7; Matt.5:8; Heb.1:8,9
We have defined Power as the ability to act or produce effect, exercise control or accomplish objectives. We also defined Purity as the state or quality of being clean, free of anything that contaminates; being faultless, uncompromised, or unadulterated.
We saw that God demanded purity from Abram at the age of 99 (Gen.17:1) and purified Prophet Isaiah at the time ministerial upgrade (Isa.6:1-7); and that at creation all things conformed to the nature of God until the fall when sin corrupted the purity (Ps.14:1-3; Pro.14:34). To restore fellowship with the Lord, we must reclaim the purity that was intended for us originally (Ps.24:3,4).
In the Old Testament, purity was premised on repentance and
obedience to the commandments of the Lord (Pro.28:13; Ps.32:1).
In the New Testament, purity is reclaimed through faith in the finished work of Calvary where by righteousness is imputed (2Cor.5:21) and maintained with a life of purity in all dealings with all men; in thought (2Cor.10:5; Phil. 4:8), words (Eph.4:29-30) and actions (1Cor.10:31; Heb.12:24). The Spirit of God purifies the heart of the believers (1Thess.5:23).
Today, we shall be considering the message:
Topic: PRIVILEGES OF PURITY

A Privilege is a
special right, advantage or immunity granted or available
only to a particular person(s). It serves as
a benefit or favour that is withheld from others, stemming from spiritual or social status, wealth or legal rules.
At a time of clamour for power, the place of purity cannot be
overemphasized.
David and his soldiers enjoyed holy bread because they kept themselves pure.
Blessed Mary was given the privilege of conceiving the Saviour because she fulfilled a basal standard of purity. The
Lord Jesus was superlatively anointed because of His love for righteousness and hatred for sin, and
Apostle Paul reveal that purity attracts divine revelation.
Though in the Old Covenant, God’s power manifested through vessels that did not meet the New Covenant standard of holiness like Samson (Judg.16:1-3; ), yet the power was sustained by obedience of definite rules of engagement (Judg.16:16-20, 22-30).
In the New dispensation, divine power goes with purity, and any power seeker that puts aside purity, treads on the dangerous arena of religious spirits (Matt.7:21-23; 24:4-5,11-12; 2Cor.11:14; 1Tim.4:1-2).
The following therefore are the privileges of purity:
- Access to God’s Presence and Properties (Exo.19:22; 2Chro.29:5; Ps.15:1-4; Matt.5:8; Heb.12:14).
Purity of heart (holiness) grants clear hands access to stand in God’s holy place and sustains His presence. It also gives access to God’s things like holy foods, etc (1Sam.21:1-6).
- Authority Over Powers of Darkness (2Cor.10:5; Lk.10:19; cp. Acts 19:14-16).
A believer whose garment is stained by sin or compromise cannot challenge the realm of darkness. The enemy recognizes legal authority only when there is no internal foothold (Jn.14:30).
iii. Acuity of Spiritual Discernment (1Cor.13:7; Heb.12:14)
Inner purity clears the spiritual lens of the fog of spiritual and emotional impurities, allowing the believer to perceive God’s though, hear His voice clearly and accurately, judge between good and evil (1Kgs.19:11-13; Rom.12:3).
- Assurance and Audacity (Pro.28:1; Isa.6:7-8)
A pure conscience removes fear and produces courage and confidence in prayer before the Almighty (1Cor.13:4,7; 1Jn.5:15).
- Attraction of God’s Attention (Ps.145:18; Jer.49:13; Heb.4:16; Jas.4:8)
In the law of spiritual attraction, likes attract, so holiness draws God closer to a believer. And when God is drawn closer, He comes with His peace, joy, favour and supernatural power (Job 1:1, 6-11).
- Advertisement of a Believer in the Field of Divine Service
(2Tim.2:21).
When a thirsty believer is purged of the impurities that make people common or that reduce spiritual effectiveness, he is automatically launched into the realm of excellence in service–vessel of honour by the Holy Spirit.
vii. Assured Entry into God’s Glory (Ps.15:1-4; Heb.9:20; 1Jn.3:2-3). Those that are anticipating His coming, keep themselves pure and have the confidence that goes with righteousness–the boldness of a lion.
The bliss and beauty of the streets of heaven, the fragrance of the glorious arena, arrangement of angelic orchestra and other glorious beings; the worship sessions are experiences/events that cannot be adequately described in the human language (1Cor.2:9; Rev.21:21), make it necessary for a believer to pay any price to make it (Rev. 21:4,23).
Yet, there is the coming unrivalled heavenly feast (Rev.19:9). Can someone afford to trade this indescribable glory with the transient pleasure of sin that has the horror of everlasting damnation (Rev.21:8,21; Matt.8:12; 13:42,50; 22:13; 24:51; 25:30)?
Wisdom demands that you choose purity so as to enjoy the effects of the unfathomable power of God in the now and eternity.
