Man‟s soul is the greatest battle front on earth for there lies the portal of man‟s destiny; and the desire of the powers of darkness is to control it (Prov. 4:23; Jn. 10:10). So, a believer must diligently guard his heart to enjoy the fullness
of life and avoid unnecessary pains/sorrows that rise from misunderstandings, mistakes of neighbours and ignorance of intentions leading to emotional turmoil etc.
A lot of relationships have been destroyed because partners lack sound minds: marriages have been destroyed and some are tettering at the edge of separation because of same. Much of the problems faced by church groups are traceable to unsound minds possessed by church members (Phil. 4:2).
The message shall come under the following subsections:
A). Evidence of Unsound Minds B). Enjoyment of Soundness of Mind C). The Expectation of the Lord.
A).
EVIDENCE OF UNSOUND MINDS
The soul (mind) is the seat of emotion, volition (Will power) attention, feeling, action, thought, behavior, decision making. When there is a consistent warping deviation of the issues from the soul, the person can be said to have unsound mind (NB: This is not a medical view or definition in psychology).
It includes extreme dramatic shifts in emotion (like severe depression), bitterness, irritability, unnecessarily feeling of insecurity (fear), inclination to suspicion, worry, apathy to godly activities (previously enjoyed) hostility, violence, rashness, delusion, confusion (inability to concentrate), failure to distinguish between right and wrong; lingering thoughts of immorality, hatred, envy, jealousy.
When any of these symptoms persists in a person, such must not delay to seek healing; for if allowed to linger can do much damage to the spirit, soul and body.
B). ENJOYMENT OF SOUNDNESS OF MIND (Phil. 4:8; 2 Tim. 1:12)
A sound mind is one full of peace and love; and able to appropriately respond to both convivial and challenging situations that arise.
A sound mind is secured and enjoyed as follows:
- Eat the word habitually (Jos. 1:8; Ps. 1:1-3, 119:165)
- Earnestly guard the mind by keeping off from negative thoughts, blocking channels of negative inputs to the mind like the news (Prov. 4:23; Phil. 4:8 cp. 1 Sam. 30:6)
iii. Excise the relationship with neighbours that carry unsound or polluting messages (1 Cor. 15:33)
- Engage in habitual rejoicing by counting your blessings and appreciating the Lord and learning to be content (Phil. 4:4,10-11)
- Effectual fervent praying genders peace (Phil. 4:6-7)
- Eradicate all objects of condemnation by the devil like lingering restitutions (Rom. 8:1; Job 1:7; Rev. 12:10)
vii. Exercise in prayer until instantaneous sanctification is experienced which deals with the old man that is the root of the problem (Isa. 6:1-7)
C). EXPECTATION OF THE LORD
The Lord expects that all participants respond in the positive by taking a decision to maintain a sound mind, and exercising until the desired is achieved.
The believer is not to be a hearer only but a doer of the word (Jas. 1:22-25). The affected child of God should call upon the Lord while He is near (with
corporate anointing) (Jer. 32:27; Isa. 55:6-7). Let‟s rise up to pray.
