  • Subtexts: Ps. 44:1-8; Isa. 51:1-2; Matt. 11:12
In  a highly  materialistic  world  iced  with  pseudo  religious  practices,  a believer must strive to know what men that interacted with the Founder of the faith taught  and  practiced  (Jn.  15:27;  Acts  1:21-23).  The  spirit  of  whoredom  is  on the prowl and the love of many has waxed cold (Matt. 24:12). Remember that as we listen attentively to understand and assimilate the word, we are subjecting ourselves to the sanctifying operation of the word (Jn. 15:4, 6:63; Heb. 4:12). What is the Faith of our Fathers? The word„faith‟has several meanings, but in our context, it is something that is  believed  especially  with  strong  conviction;  belief  and  trust  in  and  loyalty  to God (Heb. 11:1,6). Faith of our fathers is living active faith in God that was exercised by Bible-time saints. It is not just about traditionalism (Mk. 7:8-9; 1 Cor. 11:2; 2 Tim. 2:15). Abel saw God as worthy of the best and gave the firstling of his flocks (Gen. 4:4) Abraham set the precedence for righteousness by implicitly trusting God (Gen. 15:6; Rom. 4:3) The disciples were willing to die for the gospel and many suffered martyrdom (Phil. 1:20, 3:10; 2 Tim. 4:6-8) Paul forfeited his affluence and lived an ordinary life (Acts 8:3, 9:1-2; Phil. 3:10). They prioritized eternal rewards over worldly attachment. The faith was used to subdue kingdoms, work righteousness and obtain promises (Heb. 11:33) Their  doctrine  was  sound  and  they resisted  error  whenever  it  was  introduced (Rev. 2:6; Jude 1:3; 2 Jn. 10-11; 1 Tim. 6:3; Gal. 1:8) They gave themselves to the ministry of the word and prayer (Acts 6:4) What is prevalent today? The manifestation of the thing prophesied in the Bible times. People gravitating  to  places  where  messages  appealing  to  the  flesh  and  focusing  on material success are dispensed (2 Tim. 4:3).     Ministers with seared conscience preaching doctrines that will ultimately damn the adherents (1 Tim. 4:1-2, 6:3, 2 1 Pt. 2:1-3) Church members that sell their birthright for a plate of pottage by: falsifying documents and immigration papers; False age declarations; submitting their bodies to get high scores in examination or to get promotion; seeking the services of devils to settle scores with opponents, or know the cause of misfortunes/losses;  Extortions;  sell  adulterated  articles  to  make  more  money; Engage in dubious businesses like selling drugs, fraud or  sale of articles that destroy lives; present stolen new born babies as theirs in the veil of cryptic pregnancy. What about the absence of soberness and shamefacedness amongst so called “Christian” women/ladies? Why do we have marital violence and record high rate of divorce amongst so called  believers? (Mal. 2:14-16; Matt. 19:3-6, 8-9). What should a Watchman be? As the fathers followed the teachings of the inspired ministers to become living epistles, so should watchmen walk in the truth to be living epistles of old time Christianity (Jer. 6:16; 2 Jn. 1:3,4, 3 Jn. 1:3-4; Jud. 1:3) They should use every opportunity to market Jesus to the world (Matt. 28:16- 20; 1 Cor. 9:16). They  must  remain  spiritually  violent  so  as  not  to  give  the  devils  any  place  in their lives as it was of old with watchmen (Matt. 11:12; Isa. 62:6,7).
