The eagles are birds of prey known for their exceptional vision (8 times sharper than humans’). Strong sharp hooked beaks that easily tear flesh and sharp talons to grip and kill the prey. They fly solo or in pairs and soaring to great heights with wind currents (reaching up to 6 Km in altitude). Often, storms that send other birds scampering for safety, serve as vehicles/agents of ascent in altitude to eagles. They are
monogamous,
symbols of power and resilience. The eagle represents
focus,
strength and
leadership.
Many great nations adopt it as their national emblem/mascot.
An eagle renews its strength through a
legendary metaphorical process described as painful rebirth where it retreats, plucks out old talons and feathers, breaks its own beaks against rocks and waits for new ones to grow.
This symbolizes the shedding of the old to achieve renewed vitality. This is actually a myth but serves as a metaphor for human resilience, transformation and need to let go of old habits or limitations to achieve personal growth, taking whatever discomfort or challenge that is on the way.
How be it, the child of God carries the Spirit of God (Jn.14:16-17, 20; Rom.8:1; 1Cor.3:16; 6:19; Col.2:9) and like cherubims that carry about God’s presence, should have a symbolic face of the eagle (Ezek.1:4-10). In other words, they should exhibit the characteristics of the eagle (as mentioned).
In kingdom life, there is always a time for separation for renewal or reinvigoration.
For the Lord’s brief intensive earthly ministry, He did regular renewal of strength to stay optimally functional (Mk.1:35; Lk.6:12-13; Jn.8:1-2).
The Child of God is expected to follow the footsteps of the Master, and get daily refreshment (Jn.8:12; Acts 2:46; Heb.3:13).
Now, because the Lord Jesus was on top of the ladder, He did not need any human assistance to enjoy optimal fellowship with the Father, though at the time of ultimate passion, He craved for human identification with His cause (Matt.26:36-41). The believer needs the support of people of like minds for corporate anointing and better result (Heb.10:24,25; Prov. 27:17).
When a believer consciously participates in such corporate spiritual exercises, the profit is as follows:
- Faith is renewed and boosted (Rom.10:17; Mk.9:28,29).
- Fellowship is revived i.e. communion with the Spirit (Acts 4:31; Eph. 5:18).
- Purification process is enhanced (Ps.119:130,165; Jn.15:3).
- Knowledge is increased (Pro.23:4,5; Jn.8:32,36).
We dwell at the edge of the church age – the dispensation of grace which precedes the dispensation of Messiah’s reign, and so the devils are out to stop anybody that can succumb.
The believer must put on the courageous attitude of the eagle to ride every life storm and ascend to higher altitude with every challenge (Phil. 4:13; Ps. 18:29)
Capacity to climb to higher altitude like the eagle is developed through:
- Engagement in power and fasting exercises (Isa. 58:6; Matt. 3:1-5, 17:21; Mk. 1:12; Acts 13:1-4)
- Exhaustive bible reading/study exercises (Matt. 4:4; Rom. 10:17,12:2; Heb. 4:12; 1 Jn. 2:14)
- Extensive involvement in services in God’s vineyard like deliverance, evangelism etc. as practise makes perfect ( impliedly 2 Cor. 9:8; Heb. 6:10)
- Exceptional prioritization of God’s cause (1 Sam. 2:30; Acts 10:37). This is about attitude of honour
- Extraordinary divine training on some attributes of representatives of the kingdom like endurance, patience, guidance, temperance, fearlessness and faith like the ‘school of the Holy Spirit’ (Mk. 1:12; Gal. 1:15-18).
Let us therefore engage in the exercise with expectation, and we shall reap in due season (this year).
Let us get ready to renew our strength like the eagle and soar to great heights, bearing in mind that challenges are stepping stones to greatness. The eagle rides the storm.
Let us pray.
