Theme: THE KING IS COMING!
Texts: Ps. 24:7-9; Dan. 2:40-45; 7:13-14; Rev. 1:7
As testimonies on “September to remember outing” continue to flow in, it should be noted that, the month of September witnessed a form of global shaking following the intense claim by many that the rapture will occur on the day of the feast of trumpets (24/25
th September). And many who had not known the ways of the Lord got very disappointed.
In the prophetic ministry, the disciple must not fix specific dates in anticipation where dates were not given; but rather anticipate such events as the rapture daily; not with the vehemence of one that has fixed a date but with the firm awareness of one following a faithful God. (Lk. 18:1,7; 12:32; 2 Pt. 3:3-4)
In our texts, there was a prophetic summons for the city of Jerusalem to make way for the return of the symbol of God’s presence (Ark of the Covenant). It symbolized the return of the glory of God. Secondly, there was Daniel’s interpretation of the prophetic dream given to king Nebuchadnazzar on the nature of the last human kingdom that the Lord Jesus will crush to establish His reign on the planet (Dan. 2:40-45).
Thirdly, was Daniel’s own vision of the arrival and establishment of this kingdom of God’s dear Son (Dan. 7:13-14). And finally Apostle John informed us of this great advent and reign of the Lord on earth.
It is worthy of note that much of the focus on Jesus is His first advent which is not entirely wrong, for from there came forgiveness and reconciliation with God; and the provision of example on how to live. However, it would be incomplete if the second coming is not mentioned when the erstwhile meek and gentle Lamb of God will be coming as a Lion, a conquering and triumphant King, Saviour and Righteous Ruler (Isa. 9:6-7; Rev. 5:5). The phrase
“He is coming with clouds,” signifies the apparent glory that will be manifest at His advent.
In the backdrop of this expected glorious event, we shall explore the character of this soon- coming King Who is currently as glorious as He would be revealed at His second advent when He will subdue all terrestrial powers to reign (Matt. 28:18; Phil. 2:5-10; 2 Thess. 2:8; Zech. 14:17-19).
We shall consider the following topics: (I)
The Coming King is the Head
of Principalities and Powers (II)
The Coming King is the Judge of All (III)
The Coming King is the Captain of the Host.
Topic: THE COMING KING IS THE HEAD OF PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS
Subtexts: (Eph. 1:19-22; Col. 1:16; 2:10)
Principalities and powers in our context comprise Satan himself and all his evil archangels, who are primarily responsible for all the evil the universe and mankind have ever known (cons. Eph. 2:1-2; 6:12).
Now the fact that Jesus is the head of principalities and powers must be well understood. He is not head as a man is head of an organization: leading, loving and ruling those under him to achieve some set goal. Rather, His headship of principalities and powers mean that:
- He is the eternal Supreme Being that existed before them (comp. Micah 5:2; Jn. 1:1-2 etc)
- The realm in which He dwells is far above the realm of principalities and powers (Eph. 1:21; Heb. 1:4)
- These principalities and powers are subject to His power and authority (Phil. 2:5-10; 1 Cor. 15:27; Matt. 28:18)
- He, being in bitter enmity with principalities and powers and being superior to them, suppresses their works through power that is in His name/blood/word (1 Jn. 3:8; Rev. 12:11).
THE IMPLICATION:
Those disciples who have these stated truths in their hearts (not in their heads) are NEVER afraid of what principalities and powers can do (eg Ps. 18:29; Rom.8:37). Those informed ministers do not find it difficult to cast out demons. They readily knock out all demonic problems in the lives of people (eg. Acts 16:16-18, 19:15).
Those relatively weak believers and even people who are mere church members, who had been oppressed or possessed respectively by those devils before knowing and believing these truths are usually readily freed/delivered.
With the fore-going, it follows that all cases of possession/oppression/obsession, plus all other cases in the lives of people identifying with this Movement should not and must not continue. The GATES must lift up their heads for the King of glory.
There are entities that constitute gates to areas, families, businesses, dwelling places, people’s lives etc. They serve as doors to a place or thing. They can be human or spirits. They occupy their strategic positions based on some knowledge, legal grounds or authority (Isa. 49:24,25).
However, irrespective of their basis of operation, Jesus is Head over them; and so they must submit to Him (Phil. 2:9-11).
Can we then rise to pray and declare that all gates should lift up their heads, with immediate effect?
