We have also shown that the Lord Himself is a limitless pool of resources for citizens of His kingdom. We mentioned a number of natural resources which have to do with wealth or materials that a person or country has, which can be drawn inorder to function effectively viz Natural gas, Crude oil, gold, copper, tin, etc. And that the spiritual resources embedded in the Lord include Divine love, mercy, goodness, power, compassion, long suffering etc. These are unlimited.   We then highlighted the untapped resource called mercy.   Our definition of mercy was the capacity for holding oneself back from punishing, or from causing suffering to somebody whom one has the right to punish. It is unearthed and appropriated through quest (Isa. 41:17; Matt. 5:6). The seeker must show penitence, confessing his sins and believing the Lord (2 Cor. 7:10; Prov. 28:13; Heb. 9:14).   Today, we shall be looking at:   Topic: ADVANCING AND ATTAINING HEIGHTS WITH THE RESOURCES Subtext: Ps. 23:6   For good understanding of the message, we shall comprehensively define “mercy” from the original Hebrew word “Cheҫed” which actually means loving kindness. Cheҫed expresses 3 basic meanings which always interact viz strength, steadfastness and love. Any understanding of the word that fails to suggest the 3 ingredients inevitably loses some of its richness. Cheҫed refers primarily to mutual and reciprocal rights and obligations between the parties of a relationship. It expresses both obligation and generosity. It goes with loyalty and mercy.   The weaker party seeks the protection and blessing of the Patron and Protector, but may not lay absolute claim to it. While the stronger party remains committed to His promise, but retains His freedom especially with regard to the manner in which He will implement those promises.   During the teaching on Abrahamic Covenant it was stated that when God makes a covenant with His people, He gives them cheҫed (love and mercy combined, called loving kindness) which makes Him tolerate/accommodate their frailties and continue to chase them even   when they fail (Ps. 103:13; Isa. 49:5). It is called persistent grace by some scholars. This does not suggest that He will compromise His holiness and righteousness (Habk. 1:13; Isa. 59:1,2). Neither does it mean that He will tolerate presumptuous sins (Ps. 19:13).   How then can one tap the resource and use it to ride on the high places of the earth? (Mic. 6:3-8).   It takes the child of God appreciating the mercy of the Lord and aligning with His dictates by:
  1. Putting value on the Lord (1 Sam. 2:30; Mic. 6:3,6-8)
  2. Pleasing Him by living right or justly (Mic. 6:8; Jn. 8:29)
  • Prostrating in humility before Him (Mic. 6:8; 1 Pet. 5:5)
  1. Pleading for His mercy at times of need (Ps. 13:1-5, 85:7, 86:5, 119:76)
  2. Proclaiming His mercy habitually (Ps. 23:6; Rom. 10:10).
The Lord delights in the dependency of His children and never fails anyone that trusts and depends on Him. (Ps. 62:5-8).   So, if a believer vaunts His mercy, leaning on Him, He will lift the person to ride on the high places of the earth (Isa. 58:14).
