In our preceding sessions, we showed that the Lord designed to raise up spectacular people at such a time of abounding iniquity who will take the gospel to the ends of the earth. They are men of valour called sons of God (Rom. 8:19) and are the golden ones being awaited by creation. They principally possess a golden vision, which has to do with the vivid sight of the matters of eternal consequence: heaven. They also possess a golden heart, which has to do with the abundance of divine love that makes them kind, courteous, generous, compassionate, selfless, humble, etc.
Today, we shall be dealing with a 3
rd quality of golden ones.
Topic: SAINTS OF GOLDEN TONGUES
Subtexts: Deut. 32:1-3, Isa. 61:1-3, Lk. 11:27-28
In the secular, one gifted with eloquence or superior powers of utterance or persuasion is said to be golden-tongued. They are seen to have mastered the art of control through speech.
However, the term “saints of golden tongues” in our context goes beyond mere mastery of the art of speech and includes the power to improve situations and circumstances.
This golden status transcends natural limitation, as seen in Moses, who, though he was stammered, was powerful in words (Ex. 4:10-14, Acts 7:22).
Goldenness of tongue covers graciousness of words (Pro. 15:1, 16:24, 21:23, 22:11, Col. 4:6), kindness/politeness of speech (1 Pt. 3:8, Tit. 3:1-2, Eph. 4:29) and exercise of authority over spirits and natural forces (Ex. 9:11, 20-24, Num. 22:6, 1 Sam. 3:19, Matt. 7:29, Mk. 4:39).
The Lord Jesus, the believer’s Model stated that His words are spirit and life (Jn. 6:63), that He had power to quicken whomsoever He desired (Jn. 5:21) and that as the Father had sent Him, He was sending His disciples (Jn. 20:21); furthermore, that what He did, the believer can do much more (Jn. 14:12).
It is, therefore, explicit that the believer has been equipped with great capability in his tongue (Cons. Eccl. 8:4, Pro. 18:21, Mk. 11:23).
The pioneers of the Church age were required to wait until the Promise of the Father, which is the Holy Ghost, had been given before venturing into ministry.
That Promise of the Father released Power (Greek dunamis which means inherent power, ability) to serve in whatever capacity one has been called.
That ability will enable the use of the given authority (Lk. 10:19), Saints with golden tongues know of this ability, and also the possibility of draining of grace of the lips through carnal and unhealthy speaking; and as a result, study to be quiet (Eph. 5:1-4, 4:29,30, Jas. 3:8,11, cp. 1 Thess. 4:11).
The Lord Jesus was known for His slowness to speak, graciousness of speech and power of utterance (Jn. 7:46, 8:1-7, Matt. 8:27)
Now, the saint with a golden tongue knowing that every idle word spoken shall be accounted for, sanctifies his tongue to serve in the things of the kingdom (Matt. 12:36, Jas. 3:11).
Such holy tongues are vehicles of the insurmountable creative power of God (Heb. 1:8,9)
Any believer at this end time who sanctifies himself and seeks the presence and power of God shall be enlisted into the great army of men of valour who possess golden tongues that rule the world.
