Today in our Charismatic Hour message we will draw arguments that will consolidate our friendship with Jesus Christ based on this title If He Swore Not To Lie To David. We will be looking at the following points: (1) Why Swear? (2) God Never Lies, and (3) He Has Sworn Not to Lie To Watchmen Either.
(1) Why Swear? (Gen. 22:16; Ps. 89:34-35; Heb. 6:13-18)
Oaths are usually meant to end strives. In many quarters, when matters come to a stalemate, an oath settles the score, Heb. 6:16. An oath, therefore, signifies utmost sincerity and strict commitment to a cause.
Obviously, people swear by some name or being greater than they, or some precious possessions they cannot compromise. God therefore willing to show His utter commitment to His promise, staked His integrity and divinity by an oath, swearing both by His Holiness and by Himself.
(2) God Never Lies (Num. 23:19)
Does God who never lies, need to swear to David? Could it be that David was doubting God, such that God needed to swear to prove His sincerity? It must be that God needed to assure and reassure David that His promises are sure and steadfast (Ps. 89:35). This must also be the case with Abraham when God blessed him with an oath (Gen. 22:16). When the Lord who never lies swears not to lie, it means He expects the most doubtful of believers to believe (Heb. 6:13-18).
(3) He Has Sworn Not to Lie To Watchmen Either
If God sought for a man and found David, a man after His heart, (1Sam. 13:14; Ps. 89:20-21). A man who will go out before His people Israel in his generation.
He has in like manner sought a man in this generation and found His servant among the watchmen, to whom He gave a unique project (Isa. 49:5-6). Shall God at this point lie to this His servant? The answer is NO, rather as He has sworn not to lie to David, so He has sworn not to lie to His servant and the entire watchmen. No wonder He said to us ye are my friends, surely He will not lie to His friends. The most doubtful of the watchmen should cast away the doubt as we declare, that God has sworn not to lie to us. We will therefore rise in faith to sing standing on the promises of Christ our King…..
