Charismatic Hour (08/06/2021) Watchman Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement   Topic:                 SETTING OBADIAH’S PROPHESY IN MOTION Texts:                            Ps.107:20; Obad. 1-21 INTRODUCTION: Considering the LEAP Declarations of July 17, 2019, it is evident that situations are rising to test our faith in God, and our knowledge and understanding of the working of the word of God. During the declaration, it was stated amongst others that: ‘every line of the Holy Scriptures will be proven to be true to the letter, and to work wonders; … All the oppressors, arrogant, brutal, despots and all those that manifest impunity WELCOME TO THE HUMILATION PROGRAMME OF THE ALMIGHTY, AS IT WAS OF OLD.   In this Charismatic Hour Prayer time, we shall look at (A) The Description Of The Book Of Obadiah (B) The Damnable Attributes Of Edom (C ) The Declaration Of The Prophet.
  • THE DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK OF OBADIAH
The book of Obadiah was written by the Prophet Obadiah and it relayed the unacceptable attitude and activities of the people of Edom (descendants of Esau) during the calamity of Israel (descendants of Jacob). This was followed by the announcement of judgment upon the erring people and blessing upon God’s covenant people.
  • THE DAMNABLE ATTRIBUTES OF EDOM
The Prophet mentioned some deplorable characteristics and actions carried out by the Edomites, people that were relations of the Israelites.
  1. Pride: originating from the apparent security of place of residence being within the rocks and high in the sky i.e. in the mountain. This was behind their boasting (vv.3-5)
  2. Violence against Jacob: The Edomites manifested some violence to the Jews that were in distress (v.10).
  • Indifference to Zion’s calamity: turning blind eyes to the invasion of Israel and the looting that followed (v.11).
  1. Participation in the looting of Zion: The Edomites boasted and rejoiced that the Jews were being taken away, and also participated in the carting away of their belongings (vv.12-13).
  2. Resisted the escaping Jews and arrested the remnant (v.14). They constitute themselves a barrier to the escaping Jews and exposed the remnant to the invaders.
These were unacceptable acts from a purported relative and so drew the ire of the Spirit of the Prophet; and hence the Prophetic declaration.
  • THE DECLARATION OF THE PROPHET
The declarations of the prophet went to both the oppressor and oppressed.
  1. As thou hast done, so shall it be done to thee (v.15, Gal.6:7).
  2. Upon Mount Zion there shall be deliverance and recovery of possessions (17, Joel 2:25).
  3. The house of Jacob shall be a flame that consumes (v.18, Isa.41:15, Heb.1:7).
  4. The house of Esau shall be a stubble that is combustible (v.18, Jer.49:17).
  5. There shall not be any residue of the house of Esau (v.18, Deut.28:7)
  6. The children of Israel in exile shall have possession (v.20, Jer.29:11).
  7. The deliverers (saviours) shall go up on mount Zion to rule and judge the mountain of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s (v.21).
Application: The Holy Scripture is a book of concepts (ideas), and one’s ability to understand Bible stories or principles and apply to current issues determine how far the person will go in the service. Every citizen of a nation is supposed to be a brother to one another. If any has gone the way of Edom, he/she is eligible for the prophesy of Edom; while the oppressed is eligible for the prophesy of Zion.   Let’s assess our situations and prophesy appropriately to the oppressors and the oppressed.
