Text: Acts 20:20
It has been a great outing with the Lord as many testify of extraordinary experiences. In the spirit of releasing all profitable nuggets of the kingdom so as to boost performance in the kingdom, we shall be bringing this message.
We shall explore the keywords “Dominion” and “Dunamis”.
A. DOMINION EXPLAINED (Gen.1:26,28, Rom.6:14)
English dictionary defines dominion as: Dominance or power through legal authority. The state that exists, when one person or group has power over another. The Lord God informed that His purpose of making man in His image was to have dominion; and after creating him, He blessed him to have dominion:- exercise influence or rule.
The Hebrew word radah (raw-daw) translated as ‘dominion’ means ‘To tread down; to subjugate; crumble off or analyze the constituents of the creatures, with a view to maintaining or bettering lives. So, dominion ranges from subduing enemies and other creatures to discovery for the betterment of life.
The Lord Jesus gave His disciples authority to exercise dominion on earth (Lk.10:19), and they exercised it (2Cor.2:14-17). The essence of the delegated authority (exousia) is for kingdom expansion; for though they used it profitably to overcome the devils, the Lord pointed them to the more important factor – the salvation of soul (Lk.10:20).
B. DUNAMIS EXPOSED
Dunamis is a Greek word for inherent power or power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature. It can also be defined as the “ability to achieve and potential for functioning in some way.” So, every creature has dunamis by which it exists.
God’s word (gospel) is the dunamis of salvation(Rom.1:16, Jn.8:31).
The disciples of Christ who operated with delegated authority while the Lord was with them (Lk.10:19), needed to wait for the power (Dunamis) to be released before venturing into the field to harvest souls (Lk.24:46-49, Acts 1:4-8, cp. 10:38, Lk.4:14). So, even the Son of God, who is the Word of God personified, did not jump into ministry without getting the ability to achieve the purpose.
Therefore, on the day of Pentecost, as the Jews celebrated the feast, the Holy Spirit was released to assist disciples to accomplish their divine purpose (Jn.16:7,12-14, Eph.1:16-19, 3:20).
It is by this power that the disciples of Christ exercise dominion. The power is within the reach of all the disciples. The power is accessed through the Holy Ghost baptism experience. The measure that is released, and or one develops is dependent on the assignment received or dominion to be exercised. Such exercises as consuming the word of God, prayers, and fasting, fieldwork of evangelism, and impartation from anointed vessels grow this power (Acts 8:14-17, 13:1-4, 2Pt.13,4).
Dunamis for dominion is not for sinners but for sanctified saints of God (Job.14:4, Deut.8:18).
