Introduction: Prayer is one of the major keys of emancipation for the believer that has been weakened or conquered by the challenges of life, stemming from the activities of the wicked or the consequences of human mistakes. The disciples of Jesus Christ, having diligently observed Him pray, and practically felt the impacts of His ministry, made one of the biggest requests a genuine disciple can ever make“…teach us how to pray…”They knew He prayed at nights and saw power in the day, while they slept at night and stayed powerless and over dependent in the day (disconnected from the spiritual power, authority and the audacity which prayers offer). These  disciples  juxtaposed  their  helplessness  in  the  face  of  some  evil  spirits with the helplessness of all demons in the face of The Son of  God (a man  of prayer) and cried out,“…Teach us how to pray…” Another  challenge  was  the  organic,  practical,  unreligious  and  unceremonious conversations  of Jesus  with the  Father they observed (intimacy in secret and in public) as exemplified in John 11:41-42. It was so evident that they needed both to learn the art of prayer and to receive the grace of prayer. When the disciples saw all these practical realities, it dawned on them that they needed the prayer life of Jesus to do the works of Jesus and see the results of Jesus. And Jesus taught that men ought always to pray (Lk. 18). Our message shall come under the following points: (A) The Request Of The Diligent Disciples (B) The Reasons For The Request (C) The Result For The Yearning Disciples. (A)     THE REQUEST OF THE DILIGENT DISCIPLES The disciples asked to be taught How to pray. They were simply saying, “teach us how to commune with the Father. How to access strength, how to access grace, how to activate power, how to release power.” There are things the Lord knows you need but won‟t release until you wake up to  your  deficiency  and  express  need  for them.  One  of  which  is  the  spirit  of prayer. This is in keeping with His principle of not casting pearls before swine (Matt. 7:6) (B)     THE REASONS FOR THE REQUEST Prayer exposes one‟s spirit-man to the effect of communion with the Holy Ghost (2 Corinth. 13:14). Prayer unlocks your ear to the voice of God and your spirit to the ready leading of the Spirit. (Rom. 8:14)     Prayer connects your spirit to spiritual enlightenments, makes awareness stronger, firmer and more tangible. It sharpens discernment and gives  insight into life and warfare (Acts 22:17-18; cp. Rev. 3:18). Prayer gives you avenues for spiritual education by encounters. There are spiritual instructions of warfare that come in the secret place of prayer (Psalm 144:1-2; 18:32-34). Through prayers we connect to God‟s active presence to carry God‟s influence to be gods on earth. You cannot be a„god‟until you have constantly touched God‟s presence in the secret place (Exod. 7:1-2; Ps. 82:6; 149:5-9). Through prayer we plough our environments, cultivate our spirits and open portals of possibilities in the spirit realm  and challenge strange satanic altars. The prophet that prophesied against the evil altar at Bethel evidently came from the “Altar of prayer” (1 Kings 13:1-5). The  Holy  Spirit  brings  up  scriptures  in  you  and  activates  lecture  notes  in  the midst  of  prayers.  His  teaching  ministry  is  clearer,  deeper,  broadened  in  your heart the more you spend time in prayers. There are innate spiritual strengths, gifts, powers locked up in your spirit-man that won‟t come into manifestations until you climb some mountains of prayer (Eph. 1:18-19). Ministry will be spiritually and physically“…Silver and Gold have I non…” until prayer comes to introduce the audacity of“…Such as I have give I thee …”(Acts 3:6). They knew that stubborn evil spirits that alter, twist, divert, exchange, quench and mangle human destinies do exist, and that it will require really “tarrying”in the place of prayer to deal with such powers, as already taught by the Master (Matt. 17:19-21). (C)      THE RESULTS FOR THE YEARNING DISCIPLES After the tutelage of the Saviour and the empowerment of the Spirit, their hearts were cultured, addicted and „afflicted‟ with the spirit of prayer such that they had a“Apersonal and collective altar of prayer” and the“Hour of prayer”(Acts 2:41-42,31) Altars of prayer were raised in the homes, on the streets, in the churches, market  places,  transportation  means,  on  the  seashore,  etc  (1  Tim.  2:8;  Acts 21:5). Brethren, prayer is a coordinator, stabilizer and activator of spiritual potentials. Through  prayers  we  secure  our  territories,  question  invaders  and  put  to  flight the alien armies (Heb. 11:34). In these last days when our world is already spiritually invaded, and believers are being incessantly weakened by the activities of devils,  fathers must  wake up to prayer, women must enter the place of prayer, youths and children must master the art of prayer, and enter the realm of uninterrupted communion with God.
