  • Topic: WISDOM TO WIN THE WAR
  • Subtexts: Matt. 10:16; Eph. 6:10-18; 1 Pet. 5:8
Our lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, knowing the world into which He sent His disciples, as a place of fierce conflicts and wars, aptly instructed them on the need to be wise amidst the world ( Matt. 10:16) He clearly informed them that the world hates them (Jn 17:14). Truely, as the Master stated, every true believer faces multifaceted “wars”—spiritual, cultural, and personal. The scripture says that wisdom is the principal thing (Pro 4:7,1:7, Eph 3:8-10). Jesus knew when to appear in the public and when to hide. He asked His disciples  to  flee  where  there  is  danger  and  rest  when  loaded  with  work.  We  are fighting supernatural intelligent beings and so need wisdom Victory is not secured through human might or technological superiority, but through the application of wisdom. As Scripture declares, “Wisdom is better than weapons of war” (Ecclesiastes 9:18). This message explores the strategic necessity of godly wisdom in overcoming contemporary wars that we face, as individuals, families and the church at large. We shall be taking inspirations on this topic under the following subheadings: 1) The wars before us. 2) The place of wisdom in our wars. 3) Securing wisdom for victories in war
  1. THE WARS BEFORE US
The  world  in  which  we  live  is  full  of  wars  arising  from  conflicts  of  interests  and positions on several issues, between personalities and powers that be ( Gal 5:17; 1Jn  2:15;  Eph  6:12)  Believers  can  be  said  to  be engaged  in  battles  in  several fronts, which can be reduced into three-fold conflict, for the purpose of this message. * The Internal War: The struggle between the spirit and the flesh (Galatians 5:17; Rom 7:15-25; Mk 14:38) * The External War: The pressures of a secularized world system (1Jn 2:15, Jas 4:4) * The Spiritual War: A direct conflict with principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12). These spirit beings seek to negatively influence our actions, with the intentions of harming and destroying us ( Eph 2:2; Jn 10:10)
  1. THE PLACE OF WISDOM IN OUR WARS
We have been rightly informed of the nature of the warfare before us ( Eph 6:12), God equally made it clear that our weapons for winning are specially made in     Heaven  ( 2Cor  10:3-10).  Biblical  wisdom  (Chokmah)  is  not  merely intellectual;  it is Sometimes, this wisdom shows up in the most unreasonable way, in application for  living, yet  it’s  according  to God‘s  design  for  the  occasion  ( 1Cor 1:27; 2Cor 2:11; Jer 11:19). Examples of such wisdom can be found in the following circumstances: The poor man that delivered his city through wisdom ( Ecc 9: 14-15), God’s instructions on the  methodology  to  apply  to  get  victories  in  their  situations  (2Sam  5;19-24;  Jos 6:20; 2Chr 20:21-22) At one point wisdom may be to withdraw, as Jesus instructed his disciples (Matt. 6:31-34),  at  another  time,  it  will  be  to  speak  ( ),  while  at  another  time,  it might  demand  silence,  to  allow  God  to  fight  the  battle  (Exodus  14:14;Jas  3:13). Sometimes, it would demand you go with someone, recognizing that “a three-fold cord  is  not  quickly  broken”  (Ecclesiastes  4:12).Indeed,  wisdom  from  God  is  the principal need for winning all battles. 3) SECURING WISDOM FOR ALL VICTORIES IN OUR WARS Victory is already secured through Christ, but the “wisdom to win”  is determined by  our  effectiveness  on  the  battlefield  in  partnership with  the  Spirit  of  God.  We must seek the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Wisdom, to navigate the complexities of this age with grace and power to win our wars. How then do we walk in this wisdom? * Ask in Prayer: If any lack wisdom, they must ask God, who gives liberally (James 1:5). * Meditate on the Word: Thinking through scriptures allows us to “see” the way out of every temptation or battle (Jn 5:39; Act 17:11, 1Chr 12:32; Pro 6:20-23) * Walk  in  the  Fear  of  God: The  secrets  of  God  are  reserved  for  those  who  fear Him (Psalm 25:14), providing access to strategies others cannot see. * Listen to the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit provides a “superior strategy” that renders the devil’s plans null and void (Job 32:8; Pro 21:16; Jn 16 : 13) Victory is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice and strategy. Henceforth, refuse to fight  with carnal  weapons  of anger, pride, or fear. Instead, put on the  whole armor of God and apply His wisdom to every challenge. When you engage God’s ways, you cannot lose the battle. To win the wars of this era, individuals, families and the Church as a whole must needs  walk  in  wisdom  by  moving  from  reactive  fear  to proactive  wisdom,  under the leading of the spirit of God as Jesus promised (Jn 16:5-15)
