  • Subtexts: Lk. 16:1-9; 1 Tim. 6:17-19
As we continue on this supernatural voyage of 21 days adventure, we know that God will continue to unravel and deliver the keys of the kingdom into our hands. Today, we want to learn from the Master Himself, how he expects us to treat money while still on earth but on our journey to the true city and heavenly Jerusalem where we belong. As  pilgrims  and  sojourners  on  earth,  we  know that  every  wealth  we  accumulate here will eventually perish (Mathew 6: 19-21). Everyone will want to keep his treasures in a safe place for use in time of need; therefore, the counsel of Jesus as  to  where  to  store  our  treasures  must  be  heeded  if  truly  our  eternal  abode  is heaven!  As  the  saying  of  Jesus  goes,‘  where  your  treasure  is,  there  your  heart willbe‖Also  where  a man‘s  heart  is,  there  will  his  treasuresgo‖You will give your  money  to  a course  you  love  in  matching  proportion.  The  more  you love the more you give. We shall be studying the topic under the following subheadings; (1) The Concept of Mammon, demystified; (2) The Reason for the Comparison; (3) The Counsel of the Master- Putting the Usurping Servant in his Place;  (4) The Divine Bureau de Change
  1. The Concept of Mammon Demystified (Mathew 6: 23)
To make some clarifications on our topic, “Mammon” is the Aramaic word for wealth, riches or material possession. But in the original use it has a negative connotation of material wealth or possessions “becoming an idol or an object of devotion―.Mammon denotes the god of avarice which distracts the heart from devotion to the Almighty God. Jesus used it in the original  context  of  ―deified         pursuit  of  material  gain  and  it  represents  the opposite of serving God. Mammon does not mean Satan or the Devil.
  1. The Reason for the Comparison: (Mathew 19: 16-26, Mark 10: 20-25) Anything that controls a man‘s desires, thoughts and actions to the point
where it takes preeminence over every other reason is a god to him. This controlling  force  is  often  so  strong  that  ANYTHING  or  ANYONES‘S  opinion doesn‘t matter if it runs contrary to the object of deity (1Tim. 6:10). Therefore, if your life decisions are based on or controlled by wealth or money, and not the word of God, then you are serving money and not God and both cannot     rule at the same time. Choose wisely! This is what Jesus was warning against.
  1. The Counsel of the Master (Mathew 6: 20-21, Luke 16:9)
The all-wise God knows how earthly possessions can influence a man‘s heart and so designed the principle of sowing and reaping to teach us that whatever  you  want  to  grow  you  must  be  willing  to  give  out! This will ensure  that  your  heart  is  not  stuck  to  the  present  and  as  well  help  you  trust the one who gives both seed and bread(harvest) (2 Cor. 9:6-10; Gen. 8: 22).
  1. The Divine Bureau de Change (Mathew 25: 35-40, Prov. 19:17)
A Bureau  de  change  is  an  establishment  where  people  can  change  foreign currencies to the local currency for transactions and exchange of value. Without such establishments money made in a foreign land will be useless in one‘s native land. Imagine a world without such possibility!  God designed a system whereby we can transfer  money from Earth to heaven!  What  a privilege  to  those  who  have  plenty resources  on  earth  to  convert  what  could have been a master to a servant. We all will naturally want to give Jesus some great gifts if we see Him physically! So, He has shown us how to give to Him (Mathew 10:  42). Possessions are  what  defines a man‘s  worth in the world‘s system. But hear what Jesus said about it! (Luke 12: 15). We  are  to  act  wisely  with  our  earthly  possession  and  develop  the  right  heart disposition towards wealth or possessions. This guarantees that God can commit things of eternal value into our hands. (Luke 16:11) Let us rise and pray.
