Texts: Ps.24:7-9; Dan.2:40-45; 7:13-14; Rev.1:7   So far, we have seen the coming King as the Head of principalities and powers and as the Judge of all. During these expositions, we saw Jesus as the Creator of principalities and power (Jn.1:1-3; Col.1:16) and after His self-abasement was lifted to a realm beyond the reach of any creature (Phil.2:5-10). We then concluded that where principalities and powers constitute gates to a place or thing, the appearing of Jesus will neutralize them (Rev.3:7,8).   We were enjoined to daily yield to the interim judgment of Christ to stay rapturable and receive accolades at the final judgment. Today, we are looking at another revelation on Jesus the coming King as we consider ‘the Coming King is the Captain of the host of the Lord’.   Topic:              THE COMING KING IS THE CAPTAIN OF THE HOSTS OF THE LORD Subtexts:  Jos.5:13-15; Heb.2:10; Rev.19:11-14   To appreciate and benefit from this truth let us firstly talk about the hosts of the Lord. The host or hosts of the Lord refer to (i) the entire camp or armies of Israel of old (Ex. 12:41; Num.2:3-4,6,8,11,13; 4:1-3; 10:14-19; 31:14,48; Deut.2:14-15; 23:9; Josh.1:11; 3:2; 5:14-15; Ps.103:21 (ii) the innumerable company of heavenly angels that serve the God of Heaven (Gen.28:12; Ps.104:4; Matt.24:31; 25:31; Lk.2:12-13; Heb. 12:22). The New Testament church, being like Israel of old, are the hosts of the Lord jointly engaged in warfare against the hosts of darkness (Eph.6:12; implied in 1Tim.6:11-12; 2Tim.2:4; Heb.2:10).   To further understand this truth fully, let us look back to the relationship between God and Israel. But remember that the captain is the name applied to (i) the king or prince of a people (1Sam.9:16); (ii) a general (Gen. 26:26; 2 Sam. 5:8); (iii) the head of a family or tribe (Num.2:3); (iv) such that have command of a company) (Deut.1:15). God Himself was the Captain of the hosts of Israel, either the general assembly or the armies, having promised to go before them and lead them into Canaan, and did that (Exo.3:8,12,17-22; 6:1-8; 10:2-6; 23:20-23; 33:1-3; Josh.1:2-9; 3:7-8; Acts 7:31-37). Because of this, pre-incarnate Christ evidenced by the fact that the Being accepted worship, came to them in the form of an Angel to confirm His Captainship during the time of Joshua (Josh.5:13-15 ct. Rev. 19:10). It is in this manner that Jesus is the Captain of the hosts of the Lord overseeing both the church on earth and the angels in heaven (Ps. 103:19-21; Heb.2:10; Rev. 1:12-13, 16, 20, 19:11-14).   The Implication   The implication is that, as God led Israel into defeating all their enemies and overcoming all the obstacles, through to possessing the Promised Land (eg Josh. 5), so Jesus leads His hosts on individual and collective basis to overcome too, and inherit God’s promises here on earth and in heaven eventually. What each person of the Lord’s hosts today should do is to face all obstacles and assaults of the devils squarely with recognition that Jesus as Captain is standing by (Matt. 28:18; Eph. 6:11-13; Jas. 4:7). This was how Joshua conquered Jericho. After the heavenly Visitor, the Captain of the Lord’s hosts had gone, he maintained the awareness that He was with him. (Matt. 18:20, 28:20; Mk.16:20).   Following this, is the application of His word to whatever situations they are that arise. When these have been done, victory becomes as guaranteed as the sun.   For those who are not yet members of the Lord’s hosts, the thing to do is to enlist immediately, otherwise life will continue to be without real meaning and soul lost at last in hell.   At the arrival of the coming King every gate must lift up its head.   There are gates that prevent soundness of health or morals thereby fostering all manner of bad habits, sinful lives; sicknesses etc. and keep people bound in undesired lifestyles. There are gates that keep good away from people. All such gates must lift up their heads for the Lord to come in.   Let us pray.
