It is the month that habours the date that some scholars aver with audacity will be the day of the rapture: the feast of trumpets, Yom Teruah, Sept 23rd/24th. It is also called Rosh Hashanah which means the head of the year, and later marked the Jewish New Year by some rabbi.   A watchman is expected not to wait for Rosh Hashanah but be ready at all times (1 Cor. 7:29; Eph. 5:15-17). It is true that Knowledge has greatly increased in all fields of life including eschatology (Dan. 12:3); however computations and permutations that appear accurate and convincing may be made, some subtle variables can make the prediction to fail.   Our first text pertains to a faithful vassal that requested for the inheritance of the first born: double portion, and ultimately obtained it through determination and sheer doggedness (Deut. 21:15-17). While the two parables from the Lord bother on readiness for the coming king.   In this light, there is an imminent coming King phenomenon patterned after Elisha’s fiery chariot experience.   Our message shall come under the following: Day I:          The Reality of the Rapture   Day II. The Calculations of the Coming Chariot Day III: The Glory of the Coming King   THE REALITY OF THE RAPTURE Matt. 24:11-15; 1 Cor. 15:51-53; 1 Thess. 4:13-17   The word “rapture” literally means extreme pleasure and happiness or excitement; ecstasy; intense bliss. The word is used theologically to describe an awaited phenomenon called Gk harpazō which means to seize or catch away (translated “rapere” in the Latin vulgate) and has to do with the gathering up of saints at the appearing of Jesus Christ. The Rapture will   mark the end of the church age which commenced on the day of Holy Ghost outpouring; – Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4; Jn. 14:1-3). Many Bible scholars believe that it will fall in line with one of the recommended feasts of the Old Testament – feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) as did the major events of Jesus’ life and Holy Spirit advent namely: Passover (crucifixion), unleavened bread (burial), First fruits (resurrection); Pentecost or feast of weeks (Holy Spirit outpouring). These are the spring feasts. There are also the fall feast ie the remaining 3 feasts which are prophetically considered to point to end time events viz Feast of trumpets; Day of atonement and Feast of tabernacles.     What are the implications of the phenomenon? It is a day of mixed feelings. Extreme bliss for the raptured (Ps.
  • but unfathomable sorrow for those believers that missed the flight (Matt. 25:10-12; Gen. 27:33-34, 4:10-14), and terrible confusion for those that are not born again who will get into trouble as a result of the departure: wondering what transpired, whacked by possible accidents or loss of advantage expected from the raptured etc; fear from rumours of alien abduction; terrible and terrifying phenomena coming ahead (Lam. 1:6,12-14,16-21, 2:10-11,14-15,17; Rev. 6:12-17, 16:1-14, 17-21).
NB: If one misses this flight, there is no guarantee for the next. What qualifies one for the flight?   The flight is exclusively for true members of the church who have no stain (Rev. 19:7-9, 21:27). Therefore, it is neither by one’s presence or position in church nor profession nor possession of the gifts of the Holy Spirit/measure of anointing nor preaching prowess (Matt. 7:21-23).   The experience is for those eagerly awaiting the return of the Lord (1 Jn. 3:1-3; Tit. 2:14; Matt. 24:42)). The Watchman’s ministry is akin to Elijah’s 3 -phased ministry; let’s take advantage of the blow to live and work while it is day (Jn. 9:4,5).
