Charismatic Hour (18/05/2021) Watchman Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement     Topic:                    I SHALL NOT FEAR Text:                      PS. 3:1-8   INTRODUCTION Our text is a psalm of David which pertains to David’s experience when he fled from his usurping son, Absalom. The said experience beautifully reflects the state of many people in the church who have been overwhelmed by challenges of life.   It is common knowledge that the havoc being daily caused by devils and diabolical people is unprecedented: at places of residence, work places, highways, hospitals, commercial centres, farms and at even religious arena etc. Some testimonies of these events send chills through the spines of people that know not the Lord. But it ought not be so with children of God. Children of God are supposed to be bold.   May we be informed that any true child of God who gets confronted by such circumstances; if he employs the psalmist’s strategies, he will get the psalmist’s result.   There was a perilous uprising which attracted the response of prayer and confessions.   The message shall come under 3 point, (A) The Peril (B) The Prayer ( C) The Pertinent Confession
  • THE PERIL (Ps. 3:1-2)
Absalom, David’s son, (one from within his own family) had stolen the hearts of David’s subjects, to ascend the throne; and thought of eliminating him (2Sam. 15:10-13; 17:1-2). So David’s reign was temporarily suspended.   It is a known fact that the enemy from within is usually more dangerous than that from without. Today, many people are being molested by challenges in their bodies, homes and environs. The existing circumstances in the nation have suspended the peace and joy of many, and they seem to have fled (cons. Job 5:7; 7:2-4; 14:1 etc.). Some have surrendered everything to fate.   But David, though destabilized and on the run, would not remain perplexed. He fought through prayers and confessions (cons. Ps. 144:1).
  • THE PRAYER (Ps. 3:3-4,7)
As the terrific upheaval boiled, David went to God in prayers. He accurately reported the circumstance (Ps. 3:1-2). There is need for the needy to give the Lord an accurate situation report: telling the Lord as it is with him i.e. what his senses are relaying to him: what the eyes are seeing, ears hearing, nose smelling, mouth tasting and body feeling; and even the fears that are taking over his heart.   He affirmed his confidence in the Lord (Ps. 3:3). That the Lord was his SHIELD (a war apparatus designed for protection).   That the Lord was his GLORY (in Hebrew, this word properly means ‘weight’ and is figuratively used for honour, glory, majesty (reputation), wealth, splendor). This implies that as long as the Lord lives, the glory cannot be taken away by any. That the Lord was the LIFTER UP OF HIS HEAD. By this he was making reference to testimonies of the Lord’s deliverance to him in the past (cons. Ps. 46:1).   Then in verse 7, he called upon God to arise and save him as He had already undone his numerous enemies (cons. Num.14:9). NB when the cheek bone (zygomatic arch) is broken or fractured, the jaws are fixed and so can no longer move; hence the person cannot open or close the mouth at will. Thus speech and mastication and other functions of the mouth are impaired! So also does the fracture of the teeth. This means that the enemy can no longer BITE OR SPEAK!   The believer in distress should always declare his confidence (faith) in the Lord, calling to mind His past doings and then invoking God’s power by faith.       (C)  THE PERTINENT CONFESSION (Ps.3:6,8)   He confessed that he would not fear, based on the truth that he had come to know: that salvation belongs to the Lord. This confession kept his heart while the turbulence lasted. The believer must irrespective of the violence of the circumstance, do likewise, confessing “I shall not fear!” speaking to strengthen the heart out of which comes the issues of life.   What therefore is that tumult or turbulence or tempest that has risen against you or is about to rise; rise up now in battle to talk to God and make your confessions, as victory is guaranteed.
